“Education is the most important tool you’ll invest
in.”
Here at Wild Earth we believe strongly in giving back to the community. Here are some of the activities we’ve been involved with. For more information about the school please see our main page.
Started
in 2001, we have since produced hundreds of toys for needy kids in the
area. Working with a local civic
organization we handcraft toys each fall which, before Christmas, are turned
over to the Shrine Hospital for Children, a domestic abuse shelter, and a half
way house for families on hard times.

In
2005 The Wild Earth Woodworking School hosted an Open House, which included a
tool raffle and silent auction. The
price of a raffle ticket was simple; items suitable for the local food shelf or
animal shelter. All proceeds from the
silent auction were split between the two organizations. By the end of the day we had two pallets of
items, one for the food shelf and one for the animal shelter, along with
hundreds of dollars in cash. Thanks to
all who attended and opened their hearts and wallets.
Kids
need a place to play. One way to get a
really cool playground is to have the community build it. This is what happened here in Hudson in
2006. Of course, someone has to pay for
the playground. Some of the money was
raised by selling fence pickets to surround the play area. Each picket was engraved with the name of
the buyer. Wild Earth students and
staff routed names into 920 fence pickets.
Thanks to the folks at Bosch, CMT, Empire Manufacturing, and Milescraft
for helping with this project.

The
Empty Bowls project supports food banks, soup kitchens, and other organizations
that fight hunger by hosting events where attendees are served a simple meal of
soup and bread, and get to keep the bowl the soup was served in. The meal is sometimes accompanied by a
silent auction. The Wild Earth School
helped with the project by soliciting students, staff, and the Minnesota
Turners Association for bowls to be donated for the silent auction. Boy, did folks come forward with some
beautiful work!
